Position Overview
The state certified special education teacher serves as a well-organized case manager to provide on-site special education services for students grades K through 8. The Special Education Teacher at City Garden Montessori School needs a distinct personality to handle the different kinds of children and parents and maintain a level of professionalism.
Ideal Background
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Missouri state license or certification in Special Education
- At least one year experience working in a school environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exemplary organizational skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and knowledge of education records systems
- Attentive and caring with the ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
- The ability to build good relationships with children, parents, teachers and social workers
- Experience working with children from different backgrounds who have different abilities
- Be self-driven to devise and adopt new techniques for teaching and keeping the class orderly
- The ability to manage the classroom despite challenging behavior
- Compassion, kindness and patience when dealing with students
- Excellent leader and mentor for students
- Strong attention to detail and an inquisitive mind to understand each individual student
Responsibilities
- Write individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Facilitate IEP meetings with parents and staff
- Write and monitor behavior intervention plans
- Communicate effectively with parents, administration, classroom lead guides/teachers, and the special education team
- Keep detailed records relating to student conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress
