The lead teacher in a Montessori environment is more than a teacher. S/he embodies the values and philosophy of Montessori method of education and teaches by example. According to Maria Montessori the teacher “needs to acquire a deeper sense of the dignity of the child as a human being; a new appreciation of the significance of his/her spontaneous activities; a wider and more thorough understanding of his needs; and a quicker reverence for him/her as the creator of the adult to be.” All of teacher’s actions should be demonstrations of what is expected from the children. S/he needs to be open to learning from the children and his/her peers in order to continue working on skill building and self-improvement. The lead teacher supports the school Director in all of his/her activities and provides mentorship and guidance to the assistant teacher and interns.
About Montessori Enrichment Centers
The Montessori Enrichment Center, an affiliate of the American Montessori Society, offers a unique, carefully prepared learning environment for children two to six years of age. The center is licensed by the State of New Jersey under the Division of Youth and Family Services. Our program, which offers a sensible balance between freedom and structure, is based on the educational method developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.
