Overview
Tall Oaks Montessori School in Blacksburg, VA has openings for full and part time preschool classroom and before school teaching assistants to begin in the fall of 2026. Mid August to May school year. Degree and/or experience preferred.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, well-prepared Montessori classroom. This role is ideal for someone passionate about early childhood development who is eager to learn and grow within a Montessori environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Classroom Support
- Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom activities and routines
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting environment
- Support the preparation and care of Montessori materials
Student Support
- Provide gentle guidance to children as they engage in independent work
- Support social-emotional development and positive peer interactions
- Assist with transitions, snack, outdoor time, and classroom flow
Environment & Operations
- Ensure classroom materials are clean, complete, and accessible
- Help manage classroom setup and daily organization
- Support health, safety, and licensing standards
Communication & Teamwork
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher and school staff
- Communicate respectfully with children, families, and colleagues
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development
QUALIFICIATIONS
- High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with young children (ages 3–6) preferred
- Interest in or familiarity with Montessori philosophy a plus
- Warm, patient, and dependable
